Salmon: The Talachulitna River supports all 5 Pacific salmon as well as rainbow trout, grayling and dolly varden. The kings arrive mid-June at the mouth with the current king regulation fishing season ending July 13th. The kings make their way as far as Judd Lake although in the past the "Forks" was the limit for most kings. The Sockeyes, Silvers, Chums and Pinks begin arriving around the middle of July at the mouth. Sockeye make it as far as Talachulitna Lake above Judd Lake with the rest of the species only going as far as "The Forks" and some, such as the pinks making a heavy spawn right at the mouth. There are several popular creeks that the salmon are returning to along the way such as Friday and Thursday.

Rainbows, grayling and dollies: The rainbows, grayling and dolly varden are found throughout the river and all season long, although in much different places at different times during the summer. The rainbows seem to follow the kings for much of the season. Grayling love faster water and dollies love food especially salmon.
